A Model of Plans to Support Inter-agent Communication
نویسنده
چکیده
Introduction Grosz and Sidner (1990) have argued that discourses are primarily examples of collaborative activity , and hence that a model of plans for discourse must deal adequately with collaboration. In particular, it must provide a means of representing and distinguishing among agents' beliefs and of stating the ways in which the intentions of diier-ent agents contribute to achieving their goals. The deenitions of the SharedPlan model of collabora-specify the requisite components of the mental states of collaborating agents and consequently provide an important context for the interpretation and generation of utterances. In particular, because agents are aware of the beliefs and intentions they must hold to collaborate, the requirements of the Shared-Plan deenition constrain the range of information that an agent must consider in explaining another agent's utterances and in determining what it itself should do or say next. This model thus has rami-cations for all aspects of inter-agent communication , whether in a natural or artiicial language. Grosz and Sidner's original work on Shared-Plans was motivated by their work on discourse structure. According to their theory, discourse structure consists of three interrelated components: a linguistic structure, an intentional structure , and an attentional state (Grosz and Sidner, 1986). The intentional structure, comprising discourse segment purposes (DSPs) and their interrelationships , plays a central role in discourse processing: a conversational participant's comprehension of the utterances in a discourse relies on the recognition of this structure. In this paper, we demonstrate that SharedPlans provide a foundation for computing intentional structure. The use of SharedPlans for this purpose provides a more

Modeling Lateral Communication in Holonic Multi Agent Systems
Agents, in a multi agent system, communicate with each other through the process of exchanging messages which is called dialogue. Multi agent organization is generally used to optimize agents’ communications. Holonic organization demonstrates a self-similar recursive and hierarchical structure in which each holon may include some other holons. In a holonic system, lateral communication occurs b...
متن کاملMethod integration: An approach to develop agent oriented methodologies
Agent oriented software engineering (AOSE) is an emerging field in computer science and proposes some systematic ideas for multi agent systems analysis, implementation and maintenance. Despite the various methodologies introduced in the agent-oriented software engineering, the main challenges are defects in different aspects of methodologies. According to the defects resulted from weaknesses ...
متن کاملDeveloping Coherent Multiagent Systems using JAFMAS
The Java-based Agent Framework for Multi-Agent Systems (JAFMAS) provides a generic methodology for developing speech-act based multiagent systems (MAS) along with a set of classes to support implementing these agents in Java. The methodology follows five stages: (i) agent identification, (ii) definition of each agent’s conversations, (iii) determining the rules governing each agent’s conversati...
متن کاملAgent Approach in Support of Enterprise Application Integration
— The present approach highlights the synergies between application integration and interaction protocols. Since both fields have advanced in different directions, a number of important technical problems can be addressed by their proper synthesis. In our previous work [7][6][5], we proposed a methodological approach based on Interaction Protocols for Enterprise Applica tion Integration (EAI). ...
